3D Model Development

Symmetry/Asymmetry- Initially looked at splitting into layers (hence lines along length), but this produced too many faces and looked boring.

Symmetry/Asymmetry- Constructed frame around organic shape to provide reference points and found a rotational center.

Symmetry/Asymmetry- Copied shape, rotating around central axis with rounded ends on one side and sharp ends on opposite to enforce idea of asymmetry.

Symmetry/Asymmetry- Result of rotation left a shape that did not take much advantage of 3D platform.

Symmetry/Asymmetry- Copied entire shape and positioned one in front of another, also rotating to create balance and make better use of depth.

Contrast- Divided 'tower' form into sections.

Contrast- Repeated shape to make it 'reach' in all directions and create interlocking form in center.

Contrast- Added sphere in center to provide stronger representation of contrast, between sphere and 'tower' forms, aided through colour use.

Datum- Developed shapes, removing centers to create framework. Made use of 'glass' texture in center to connote ideas of hollowness.

Datum- Made better use of space, spreading shapes across all axes, making sure all 'point' to a central point to communicate datum.

Datum- Alternate view.

Figure Ground- Moving away completely from block form of previous model.

Figure Ground- Decided adaptation was too boring and changed positive space into negative space to show separate figures coming together to form a whole.

Figure Ground- Alternate view, both positive and negative space contributing to overall form, requesting consideration of figure and ground.

Figure Ground- Exploring alternative approach.

Figure Ground- Trying to further remove from basic block form, while also retaining focus on figure and ground.

Figure Ground- Repeating new form and investigating splitting/repeating.

Figure Ground- Looking into idea of 'splitting'.

Figure Ground- Combining splitting and vertical repetition techniques for effect.

Figure Ground- Composing new form based on last, allowing for variation. Using contour line method for 3D shape.

Figure Ground- Combining different shapes to create sense of a scene.

Hierarchy- Modifying shapes for enhanced interest.

Hierarchy- Modified shapes.

Hierarchy- Moving away from basic forms, exploring different perspectives.

Hierarchy- Beginning experimentation with colour/texture.

Rhythm/Repetition- Making base of 'teardrop' form, removing every second vertical section.

Rhythm/Repetition- Adding skewed cone at top and box frame to allow for simple reference points. Also beginning colour investigation.

Rhythm/Repetition- Using reference frame to evenly space forms as repeated in spiral shape.

Rhythm/Repetition- Positioned 'floating'.

Proportion Composition- Creating composition within individual 'beams'.

Proportion Composition- Layering 'beams' to compose a larger whole.

Proportion Composition- Layering in a different method to add interest. Achieved through rotating each layer 15 degrees rather than 90 degrees.

Proportion Composition- Alternate view revealing internal pattern formation.

Proportion Composition- Alternate view giving detail.
